Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole In this module, we explore the towns in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole. In 2001, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality was formed as an administrative area covering Port Elizabeth, the neighbouring towns of Uitenhage and Despatch and the surrounding agricultural areas.
Sarah Baartman District Municipality Sarah Baartman District Municipality In this module, we explore the towns and sites of interest in the Sarah Baartman District. Sarah Baartman District Municipality (formerly Cacadu District Municipality) is situated in the western part of the Eastern Cape province. It is the largest district in the province, covering approximately 60 000km˛.
Chris Hani District Municipality Chris Hani District Municipality In this module, we explore the towns and sites of The Chris Hani District. The landscape ranges from moist uplands and grassland hills to the arid Karoo scrubland. The Central Karoo region is bounded in the south by the Swartberg range, in the west by the Cederberg and Bokkeveld mountains, in the north by the Orange River and in the in the northeast by the Drakensberg.
Joe Gqabi District Municipality Joe Gqabi District Municipality In this module, we explore the sites and towns of The Joe Gqabi District. Before 1 February 2010, The Joe Gqabi District Municipality was known as the Ukhahlamba District Municipality. Its name was changed in recognition of Joe Nzingo Gqabi (1929–1981), an African National Congress member who was a journalist for the New Age, a member of the Umkhonto we Sizwe, and one of the Pretoria Twelve.
Alfred Nzo District Municipality Alfred Nzo District Municipality In this module, we explore the sites and towns of The Alfred Nzo District. The Alfred Nzo District Municipality is the smallest and one of the poorest districts in the province. It is named after Alfred Baphethuxolo Nzo, former secretary-general of the African National Congress and minister of foreign affairs in Nelson Mandela's cabinet from 1994 to 1999.
OR Tambo District Municipality OR Tambo District Municipality In this module, we explore the sites and towns of The OR Tambo District. The OR Tambo District Municipality is named after Oliver Tambo. The district is within Wild Coast Region.
Amathole District Municipality Amathole District Municipality In this module, we explore the sites and towns of The Amathole District. Many towns and villages originated as forts or strongholds, built by British in the 19th century, to protect white settler farmers and their livestock against Khoe and Xhosa raiders. Numerous memorials, monuments and other relics related to a century of turmoil (1779-1878) are scattered across this region.
Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality In this module, we explore the sites and towns of The Buffalo City Metropolitan. It includes the towns of East London, Bhisho and King William's Town, as well as the large townships of Mdantsane and Zwelitsha.
